Why the College of Complementary Health Professionals of BC Matters for Your Career
If you’re studying to become a registered health professional in British Columbia, whether as a chiropractor, massage therapist, naturopathic physician, acupuncturist, or traditional Chinese medicine practitioner, it’s helpful to learn about the College of Complementary Health Professionals of BC (CCHPBC). The CCHPBC sets the standards for professional competency, ethics, and public safety, and the licensing exams you’ll take as part of your path to registration are designed to ensure you meet these standards. At Ashton Testing Services, we are proud to partner with the College by proctoring the exams that students take for licensing.

A Unified Regulatory Body

Formed on June 28, 2024, the CCHPBC brought together four previously separate regulatory colleges into one multi‑profession body. This means chiropractors, registered massage therapists, naturopathic physicians, and traditional Chinese medicine practitioners and acupuncturists are now regulated under a single framework designed to promote consistency and excellence across complementary health professions. This modernization was part of a broader effort by the Government of British Columbia to simplify and strengthen health profession regulation, streamlining processes and enhancing public safety. What the College Does

As a regulatory college, the core mission of the CCHPBC is to protect the public. It does this by:
  • Setting standards of practice and ethics that registrants must meet every day in their work.
  • Licensing qualified professionals who meet education, training, and competency requirements.
  • Maintaining a public register so anyone can verify whether a practitioner is in good standing.
  • Responding to complaints and taking disciplinary action when needed to uphold safety and public trust.

For learners, this means that the exams you’re preparing for don’t just test knowledge in a vacuum; they are steps toward satisfying the professional standards and regulatory expectations that the College enforces for safe practice.

What This Means for Students

If you’re aiming to write exams for registration with the CCHPBC, knowing the College’s purpose and expectations will help you:
  • Understand the context and importance of competency standards you’re being tested on.
  • See how your future profession fits into a larger regulatory framework designed for public safety.
  • Prepare more effectively by focusing on areas of practice and ethics that align with real‑world expectations.
